Writing Style + Word Choice Then and Now

If you read Little Women followed by Harry Potter, you would see a major difference in writing style and word choice. That is what I'm going to discuss today.

Old-time word choice was much different then now-a-days, because we use much less fancy words and much more slang. A lot of words they used in commonplace language have disappeared from our usual vocabulary. In the Anne of Green Gables series, Lucy Maud Montgomery uses plenty of flowery language, as the girls in my class would know. We have a small vocabulary that has a few words that we usually use in speaking, writing, texting, etc, but back then, kids had many more words they learned.

Writing style is much different now than then. Back then, every sentence made things sound majestic by putting in adjectives or arranging words in a better order. Now, people might insert a descriptive sentence every other page or two. I'm not exactly sure what changed in the way we write, but I think writing expresses the way that we talk, and it has changed as we have gotten more slang-y. Thanks for reading guys!!!
